I love the idea of the United branded bus - if rental car companies can do it, I bet United can make it work, and they can do it tomorrow if they want to.

That said, I disagree that the PATH extension is dead. There appears to be considerable momentum to make this happen, and I happen to think this is a great idea, only one that should have been done a couple of decades ago.

Yes its more expensive to lay track in northern Jersey than say rural Texas. But laying a mile and a half of track in rural Texans (a bargain as it might be) will not help folks in lower Manhattan (or Jersey City or Hoboken for that matter) get to EWR. And when you look at the cost in terms of the expected life (~100 + years) it is trivial. And note that the projected cost includes a parking complex that will generate revenues, and there will likely also be a extra surcharge (like what the airtrain costs) that will help pay for all this.

Sridhar Shankarnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280277691673459003.post-56244361961328942182015-07-02T15:37:02.405-07:002015-07-02T15:37:02.405-07:00Southwest just added a Burbank-SFO route! If you want to promote a HSR-accessible airport as an alternative/supplement to LAX, then it should be Ontario not Burbank. Rather, at least one of the runways of Burbank, and possibly the entire airport, should be closed and redeveloped.Ericnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280277691673459003.post-50703116276258317672015-06-22T08:17:59.452-07:002015-06-22T08:17:59.452-07:00The High Speed rail project is supposed to tie int...The High Speed rail project is supposed to tie into Burbank Airport, and I believe SFO as well. Itll be great to finally have low cost travel options to Fresno by flying into Burbank and transferring to rail, and yeah, with rail Burbank Airport will be more convenient to downtown LA than LAX.

Yes, Jetblue is going after United hard, and they have much better service and amenities. BWI, Burbank Aiport, EWR, are just a few of the airports which have amtrak stations. It seems to me that you should be seeing people from Baltimore, DC, Philly, Delaware, taking a train, flying into BUR, and then taking a train to meetings in downtown L.A., conventions in Anaheim, or Santa Barbara.

United is getting eaten up by jetblue in the NYC area. Business travelers need reliability and solid trip-planning. Maybe that should be on not only the New York end, but the California end as well? IAN!
