Fresno riding their bikes to the new aquarium. Driving by, it looks like it sits about 50 yards or so east of Temperance. It appears to run from the freeway south almost all the way to Herndon. If they can ever get a pedestrian crossing over/under freeway 168 it could connect with the section you linked.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280277691673459003.post-91206664696127260122015-01-30T11:14:27.436-08:002015-01-30T11:14:27.436-08:00Thanks for that information! That ag preserve does...Thanks for that information! That ag preserve does seem to be why no sidewalk was built on Sunnyside, but Id argue that sidewalks and rural areas can live together. Especially here, where people would want to reach the enterprise canal to walk or bike to the existing trail further down.

As for the trail by the hospital, are you referring to this one...
http://stopandmove.blogspot.com/2014/07/pictures-of-newly-extended-enterprise.html

Or one within the hospital property? Foolishly, when 168 was built, they did not include a tunnel for the planned trail. I'm not sure which parts (if any) of the intersection are inside the city. Google maps actually still show the trailhead site as county not city.

Another issue is the Dry Creek Ag Preserve along Sunnyside and Fowler between Nees and Shepherd. Map at:
http://drycreekpreserve.org/dcp-location/
It consists of small farms that want to maintain their country lifestyle. That probably limits the urban improvements Clovis can provide along Sunnyside.

Negotiations with the County and those landowners might be able to allow some improvements but then that would have delayed the trailhead construction.

A similar situation exists in the area of Nees and Locan where Clovis has been promising landowners they can continue activities like maintaining farm animals such as horses and that Nees will not be widened to 4 lanes. That may limit some things that would help link Harlan Ranch to other urban development.

FYI, the Clovis Hospital appears to have done a nice job developing a trail area on their property near the freeway. I haven't stopped to inspect it yet but it looks like lots of amenities.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
